About Art of the Seas

What is Art of the Seas?

Art of the Seas is a nonprofit based in the Florida Keys that restores whole reef ecosystems through eco-friendly artificial reefs, coral and sponge restoration, ocean education, and ocean-inspired art.

Is Art of the Seas a registered nonprofit?

Art of the Seas, Inc. is organized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with status in development. We will share our determination details as they are finalized.

Where do you work?

Our primary service area is the Florida Keys, Florida, and we work with partners and supporters across the country.

Who leads the organization?

Art of the Seas is led by a board of ocean lovers, scientists, artists, and builders. You can meet them on our Board of Directors page.

Reef Restoration & Science

What does it mean to restore a whole reef?

It means rebuilding the reef as a living system rather than a single species, restoring coral alongside the sponges, habitat, and structure a healthy reef needs to function and recover.

Why are sponges important to reefs?

Sponges filter large volumes of water and recycle nutrients back into the reef. Scientists call this the sponge loop, and it helps reefs thrive even in nutrient-poor tropical waters.

What is an artificial reef?

An eco-friendly structure we design and install on the seabed to give coral a stable place to grow and to create habitat for fish and other marine life from day one.

How do you know restoration is working?

We monitor how each reef develops over time, so our work is guided by science rather than guesswork. Project results will be shared as they are confirmed.

Donations, Membership & Sponsorship

How are donations used?

Your support funds reef design and installation, coral and sponge restoration, and ocean education programs such as our school outreach and ocean coloring book.

Is my gift or membership tax-deductible?

Art of the Seas, Inc. is organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with status in development. We will confirm tax-deductibility details as our determination is finalized.

Can I cancel or change my membership?

Yes. Memberships are monthly, and you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time.

What is the difference between membership and sponsorship?

Membership is for individuals who want to support the mission with recurring monthly giving and perks. Sponsorship is for businesses and partners who fund specific programs and receive recognition. See the Membership and Sponsors pages for details.
